Continue across RT44 (in Pine Meadow) through the twisties. Turn left onto RT318 for a beautiful view of the reservoir (and plenty of room to stop). Continue on RT318 and turn right onto RT 181 which will take you through Peoples State Forest. In Hartland turn left onto RT20 which will take you into Riverton. As you go through the center of Riverton go over the small bridge which crosses the river and make an immediate left onto River Road (not well marked, but across from the furniture factory). Take River Road to the 4-way stop at RT318. Make a left onto RT318, cross the steel bridge and follow RT318 back through the reservoir, making a right back onto RT219. Take Rt 189 North in Granby (turning left off of 10/202 and then a quick right onto 189N) to Granville MA. Turn left onto Rt 57 and head west. As you approach Otis you will see a huge sign for a steep grade. Take this sign seriously as the hill is steep with some great turns. At the bottom of the hill there is a stop sign as you turn right, cross Rt 8 and zig-zag to a steel bridge staying on Rt 57. A few miles up, Rt 57 makes a sharp turn to the right (go slowly here). Continue on through the small towns until you get to West Marlboro where you'll turn left onto 272 and connect with the Norfolk loop trip going in the opposite direction and heading towards Norfolk (see that trip for more details). You'll see a small sign to Canaan after you pass the cafe, which is another great side trip if you want to do some more exploring and eventually wind up further away in Canaan on Rt 44.

If you don't take the Canaan road, stay straight on 272 into Norfolk and you will again be on Rt 44, where you can go straight and head back to Avon or stay on 272 to Torrington (making a left on Rt 4 when you get to Torrington).
